& keeping the mic keyed & at 10.4v the output of the radio & the amps started to drop, so I turned it up again to 10.6v the amps went up to 5.1 amps & the output went up to 6 watts. Radio output to 6 watts by keying up & put a amp meter in the line & it showed 5.1 amps, I then turned down the voltage (I have a adjustable power supply) I then got thinking about the 8 voltage regulator in the radio, do I need to to suppy the radio with 13.8v ? so I set the

To get to about 50/60c with the fan running, & it would cool down when the radio was not being used, but the right hand side of the radio still got hot, not as hot I then after moving the TIP 36c I fitted the probe to the heat sink where it is now & the temp used Warnning sticker on case saying CAUTION THIS SURFACE MAY BE HOT. Used to be about 80/95c, the trouble is that there is no where for the heat to go & the top left hand side of the radio used to get very very hot, CRE even put a Before I moved the TIP 36c transistor I had the probe inside the radio next to the TIP 36c, the temperture after 25/30 minutes it is controled by a thermostat that came from eBay (see last two pictures) top right you can see the temperture probe, The fan was fitted before I did this mod. To put some heat sink grease between the transsistor & the heat sink. Here you can see I have soldered the transistor onto the wires & mounted it at the back of the radio using one of the heat sink mounting screws, you will need to Below is the inside my radio, you can see that I have removed the transistor TIP 36c & soldered 3 wires (yellow/red/black) to the board. So I replaced it & the other transistors & voltage regulator, why, well they were all bolted to the same bit of aluminium that the TIP 36c was bolted to, so that they could beĭamaged as well, the cost about £6.00 for the lot. If you are here reading this then you may have had the same problems that I had with my CRE 8900 CB radio getting very hot, in fact mine got that hot it burnt out the If you do not want to do this mod then do not buy any radios made by CRE
